Good-bye Facebook, it's been a Ride!

A poem, an energy reading and a message of love. Plus, trialing posts as podcasts!

An open letter to Facebook:

Good-bye Facebook, it’s been a Ride

Your glittering posts, and snappy reels

All a quick-fix and dopamine feels.

Behind the illusion of what is presented, billions of

people

looking into their screens, oblivious to life passing by.

The living activities and people inviting attention -

unheard and unseen by glazed over eyes.

What megalomaniacal desire to command the focus of friends,

to look, to buy,

to judge, and deny,

driven by capital to sell and befriend.

The illness that sits at its core.

I send blessings and healing.

Social suicide? We’ll see.

Stay, let us ‘help’, perhaps deactivate?

Don’t delete!

No, it’s decided.

Good-bye.

Blessings, Michelle x

Untangling

Love is Divine, with Michelle Cowles is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

If you’ve been following, you will know that I took last weekend off to untangle myself from social media - Facebook and Instagram to be specific.

I’ve watched others before me step away from social media platforms and while admiring their conviction, a little shiver of trepidation followed by logical financial justification always kept me there.

As you are no doubt well aware, social media has the capacity to send us down the rabbit hole of meaningless content for shits and giggles, to erase moments of boredom, to ease anxiety, to create more anxiety - and yes, allow us to see into and comment on the curated lives of friends of loved ones.

Overtime, it has become abundantly clear that the trade-off for the latter has been a grudging reduction in what we deem to be our right to privacy, trust in our own ability to find the products we ‘need’ without an algorithm suggesting it for us, a nesting space for hackers and spammers, loss of life outside the screen, and a clever network that makes disconnecting not as easy as it could be.

Global FOMO

How has this phenomenon grown so rapidly into 3.07 billion active users in 2024?

How have we all bought into the illusion of ‘connection’? How many sincere connections do you reap on a daily basis?

Over the past 6 months, I have been given repeated messages that social media was not in my Highest Good. There is no judgment regarding what follows because much of what came in applied to me as well as people who followed my pages.

When we are looking into these platforms, we are looking at other’s lives - essentially voyeurism, Fear Of Missing Out, and an Egoic means to avoid looking at ourselves.

We are all being Guided to look Within

The greatest attention grabbers according to ‘likes’ are often light, silly, or as my mother would say, ‘earthy’ humour, and so on. Yes, humour is good for the soul! And there is still more to life… engaging in real-time with the person next to you on the bus, on the street, your neighbour, a family member and sharing a kind word or humorous anecdote far outweighs anything scrolled or swiped. This desire to share a fun moment is why we tag others, but the real deal is so, so much better!

And those boring moments in life?

They are the opportunities to really see. To notice the miracle of life unfolding under our very noses. A bored moment - lying on the ground and looking at the sky creates grounding and an opportunity to allow new thoughts to drop in. Rollover and see the ants toiling or notice the way a bud unfurls. Opportunities to engage with living!

Keeping it Real

Yes, engaging with others can be awkward, uncomfortable, and even anxiety provoking. These reactions are asking us to ‘back off’! Not from engaging with others, but from judging ourselves as inadequate. So what if I make a social gaff? It proves I’m human and that I’m fallible and gives you permission to be the same.

Funny anecdote comes to mind, so I’ll share… I worked in finance for 10 years and we had done so well one financial year, that there was an all-employees celebration. A friendly bloke came to our table, and no-one made any attempt to engage. If you know me, I don’t like people being left-out or to feel rejected, so I asked what area of the organisation he came from. A smile and a quick reply enlightened me. He was the CEO and I gave my colleagues material for a good laugh for quite some time.

In hindsight, I still choose that moment over fear or the numbness of observing a life without engaging, or touching life with others.

Illusion of Power and Energetic Consequence

I recognise many machinations behind the operations of social media strongly founded on capitalism- power and financial gain. Any medium based on this unhealed ideal is also going to attract unhealed energy which is how it has become a haven for spammers, trolls, and scammers. I could go on, but I won’t - I’m sure you have enough examples of the poor health of social media.

This is not who we, including those who run social media, are.

What these organisations don’t realise is that money is only a tool and power an illusion.

These are not healthy goals and come with their own energetic consequence.

There is an adage that says when you love what you do, it isn’t work. Take this enlightened saying a little further and be assured: when we are aligned with joy and our purpose, abundance flows.

As each of us remembers the Divine beings we are, that we are one with all, we stop participating in things that no longer serve the greater good.

And the closer we move to New Earth, the more these forms of manipulative media and their mental shackles will fall away.

Hello on the Flip Side!

Time to focus on my loves and to do what I love, to share, to embrace all that we are without limitation, being moderated or manipulated.

I invite you to do the same as we share this beautiful, real space.

I’ll be using some of the newly created time to really connect with those around me and those who matter to me including you as I start taking a little more time to create audio options for posts!

What about you?

Deeply, sincerely, respectfully,

Blessings to you all
