Anxiety, Fear, Worry
Anxiety, fear, and worry - emotions that rob us of presence. Strategies for healing and energetic therapy using crystals.
There is nothing ‘New Age’ in crystals and energy therapy. Holding a crystal, wearing or meditating with them is a continuation of practices as old as humankind. Widespread and debilitating anxiety, fear and worry, however, are far more recent phenomena.
While this article explores how ancient practices hold benefits for a modern dis-ease, there are many ways of managing emotions and emotional imbalances. I have found my solutions through past experiences of trial and error using a combination of modern and ancient practices. Trust what resonates for you.
TRIGGER WARNING: If you have experienced or continue to experience mental health issues relating to anxiety, fears and worry, please seek support first and foremost from your General Practitioner, mental health worker, Lifeline on 13 11 14 (Australia) OR find support by country at www.helpguide.org. This article explores the metaphysical aspects of these emotions and seeks to support traditional practices, not replace them.
Modern science recognises the innate energy in crystals which we already use for a range of physical purposes. Eg, small quartz crystals used in watches, computers, and smartphones.
This capability is supported by research into the atom – the matter that forms the universe, us, and our world within it. All energy has positive and negative poles that attract and repel. When we have attracted energetic imbalances, crystals, like magnets, can be used to transform our vibration and restore energetic harmony.
Thoughts also hold measurable vibration – energy. Our thoughts influence energy and energy influences our thoughts. What we do with this energy is within our control. Either we allow ourselves to be tossed around by experiences, other’s comments, or our thoughts, OR we can stand in our own power and deliberately choose how we respond.
When we become entrapped in our thoughts, a skilled counsellor can support us to untangle stubborn, unhelpful patterns.
Healing crystals remind us to quiet the chatter of the mind, release what no longer serves, and reconnect to the healing vibrations of the Earth. An important lesson to learn from crystals is patience as we honour the eons it took for these semi-precious stones to evolve and transform.
Crystal Healing
Crystal Healing adopts an integrated approach that takes lifestyle, attitude, state of mind, and environment into account. It can support us to:
Tune into the rhythms of life.
Respect creation.
Release attitudes and habits that no longer serve us.
Crystals are often used in kinesiology/energy therapies to reduce anxiety, address migraines, and release tension. They can also support meditation, balance chakras, and more.
Essential ways healing crystals can transform energy and resolve imbalance include:
1. Clearing or cleansing – Specific crystals such as jet, obsidian and tourmaline absorb and remove certain types of energy from our body. As a magnet attracts and draws negative energy like metal shavings, crystals attract and remove certain types of energy from our body.
2. Balancing and Energising– Crystals and stones contain frequencies specific to their type. When we select a crystal for purpose, it can be used to reset energy by inducing the resonant frequency the body requires to restore harmony.
Energy and Emotions
Each of us is here to learn to work with our emotions instead of pushing them down. When we ignore our feelings, we create energetic and physical discord. The discomfort is asking us to understand what needs to change to allow us to flow through life.
The main function of emotions is to show us what we are, and what we are not. Our high vibration, loving, joyful emotions are aligned with our inner God-like self and guide us to find more of these experiences. Conversely, guilt, blame, shame, regret, anger, fear, etc, make us uncomfortable and act as an invitation to choose something better- to create a healthy boundary, learn to say ‘no,’ or release an outdated belief.
This invitation applies to every human being and we accept change in our Divine right timing. We are each responsible for our own feelings and can learn to observe rather than absorb others’ energy - there is a whole other article in this!
Note: always see your doctor or mental health practitioner for medical support for extreme or persistent fear, anxiety and worry.
Understanding Fear, Anxiety and Worry
These emotions set in when we begin to doubt or disregard our inner knowing, often as children when we convince ourselves we need to accept social norms, expectations and so on. Ultimately, allowing our Ego to keep us anchored to unpleasant emotions and experiences, replaying what ‘could have’ or ‘should have’ been, keeps us stuck in the past. Effectively the Ego is using these emotions to stymy us from delving into the event, processing the learning, and robs us of the ability to be present.
Fear: is an emotion to be treated with respect. It can be helpful, guiding us to stay safe or take care. It can also show us that we are viewing a situation with limitation and avoiding change. Eg, being fearful of ‘failing’ or a new job. If fear binds our actions we are being invited to change perspective and dissolve limitations by understanding ‘failure’ is only an opportunity to try something different or strengthen a skill. Moving beyond fear can unlock new avenues of creativity and help us discover new freedom. Unchecked, fear becomes anxiety.
Anxiety: keeps us on alert, focused on what has or what may happen instead of trusting in the present. Filled with fear, anxiety becomes a new ‘norm’ and, because we feel helpless to create change, we become hypervigilant, looking to control our environment or make it predictable… Exhausting. There is nothing we can control beyond our actions and reactions in this moment.
Our belief in controlling anything else is the fundamental imbalance that often requires support by working with a skilled counsellor - and I highly recommend it.
Worry: Worry and anxiety are not the same, yet both can be major obstacles. Worry is a burden and form of mental gymnastics that prevents us from enjoying the present moment. People worry about a vast range of events or how others see them – in fact, there is no earthly condition that someone is not worrying about.
When we worry, we often believe we are ‘doing something,’ yet worry only serves to weaken our psychic, mental and emotional energy, and rob us of joy. In effect worry causes the pain twice: worry about whether something negative will happen; and then the worry that occurs when the negative does happen (IF it eventuates). Let it go and return to this moment.
Problem Solving Toolkit
Take courage; once we are ready to examine our fears, what sits on the other side is always worth working for. Throughout our lives we develop a significant toolkit filled with experience, wisdom, resources, and strategies for dealing with problems. Take stock of your inventory by reviewing other issues you have solved, either with or without another’s support. You found an answer then and will again.
When worries arise acknowledge the feeling and go to this tool kit. Then examine the worry:
Is it mine? Ultimately we are each responsible for ourselves - this can sound harsh but consider, can we really make another person change?
Is it asking for action to be taken?
YES- select the resources you need and deal with it.
NO - recognise that the worry has no benefit and let it go– you will deal with the issue if it arises.
Get Grounded
Crystals can help to ground our energy into Mother Earth, however, connecting directly with Earth on a regular basis can help restore balance and even prevent symptoms from escalating. Nature IS an energetic correction and reminder to BE.
Which Crystal?
There are specific crystals that offer energetic support to reset the vibrations of fear, anxiety, and worry. Used with or without meditation, they will help reset your energy and offer insights and new perspectives.
Note: always see your doctor or mental health practitioner for medical support for extreme or persistent fear, anxiety and worry.
The following are some of the crystals that can be used to energetically support individuals experiencing all three stresses:
Amethyst: Overall healer, nature’s tranquiliser. Calms the mind, nerves and supports restful sleep. Soothes all fears, especially nightmares. Relieves stress and tension that accompanies fear. It can be helpful to put amethyst and charoite under the pillow.
Aventurine: Calms the racing heart, balances the energy of the heart.
Black tourmaline, Smoky quartz, Hematite: Grounding stones that support the base (root) chakra, release energetic imbalances, aid feelings of safety and security.
Clear calcite: Supports us to have expanded awareness, remember there are alternative ways of being and doing. Combined with clear quartz, it helps to remind us we have the ability to find new perspectives in situations.
Citrine: Supports restoring and balancing self-esteem and manifesting one’s dreams.
Hawk’s eye; Tiger’s eye: Helps give perspective of a situation, making problems seem smaller.
Rhodochrosite & Peridot: Two of the most important crystals for anxiety relief. Both regulate the solar plexus, breathing, and identity, releasing emotional tension and balancing the adrenals.
Resetting Vibration
Notice which crystal stands out for you or use a pendulum to select the right crystal. They can be placed under your pillow, tucked in your pocket, worn over the heart as jewelry or held as a worry stone.
Using crystals while meditating is also an effective way of resetting energy. Choose crystals from the suggestions above or trust the crystal you are drawn to. They can be held, or placed on or under the body as feels right while you meditate. Like grounding, healing crystals reconnect us to Mother Earth and reset our vibration for our highest good and quite simply, can feel nothing short of phenomenal! The crystal below is part of my energetic management.
Always drink plenty of filtered water and stay grounded when working with energy. This helps anchor positive change as well as physical, emotional and spiritual integration.
