Pachamama
"Every day is Earth Day," Pacheco Salvador. A journey into the roles of Mother Earth, and this planet we call home.
The Earth has been revered by its human habitants for eons. Pachamama, Mother Earth, Gaia, Unci Maka, Papatūānuku, Tatei Yurianaka, Máttaráhkká: there are as many names as there are roles the Earth Mother plays.
Revered by cultures throughout the world, Earth is personified as a feminine, motherly entity. While some represent her as one entity, others merge her qualities with Nature Goddesses, Creation Goddesses, or Fertility Goddesses associated with soil and sun.
Regardless of the label we apply, She is unanimously a life-giving and nurturing motherly entity without whom we would not be experiencing this physical lifetime.
Metaphysically, we understand that She has agreed to support human growth and evolution to allow humans to move from base emotions of greed and self-servitude. This has proven a slow process and of course Her denudation and desecration comes at a cost to Earth and to ourselves.
As we become more aware of energetic cause and effect, our understanding of our relationship with the Earth Mother matures. We grow to appreciate her support and the greater our awareness, the greater we understand and act on our responsibility to maintain the delicate relationships between all elements of the world.
We continue to live in a time where upheaval is the energetic culmination of our past thoughts and actions - this is evidenced in natural disasters. These are natural processes as energetic debris must rise to be cleared.
Awareness of Pachamama reminds us of the need to focus and appreciate the gifts of nature and trust there is always an abundance when we act in service.
Caught up in the demands of the physical world we can forget to take a deep breath and enjoy the beauty around us. Nature is a reminder to look after ourselves as well as Mother Earth. Reciprocal nurturing can look like:
Taking a walk in nature - picking up a piece of rubbish
Focusing on nature’s beauty and being mindful of our thoughts - lack creates lack, joy creates joy
Holding gratitude for air, water, and food that nourishes - blessing the Earth Mother
Investing products that mindfully and sustainably harvest her resources
Choosing not to participate in the abuse of our beautiful planet
Extreme Grounding
A simple exercise to reconnect with Gaia is through ‘extreme’ grounding.
Take a towel or blanket and place it on the ground.
Lie flat on your back - use a pillow under your knees if needed.
Take a deep breath and imagine roots growing from each of your chakras deeply into Gaia. Imagine She is holding you in her arms and filling you with the unconditional love She holds for her children.
Breathe steadily and relax. You may like to listen to relaxing music, watch the clouds float by, or simply drift.
Allow yourself at least 15 minutes. You may even notice a 'jolt’ or increase in energy when your body has absorbed enough of her healing. Remember to give thanks.
Blessed be
