Automatic writing is another way of tapping into the deep source of wisdom within that exists outside of conscious awareness. In this way we can gain information from our Higher Self, our guides and Archangels.
Intuitive writing practice is usually done in a trance-like state. It might sound complicated but it isn’t. Our brainwaves are generally classified in five states: Gamma, Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta. Simply watching television/media drops our brainwaves from active Gamma to relaxed and reflective Alpha, the first state commonly accessed in hypnosis. When we relax, we become open and are able to access the deeper part of the self.
Some of the benefits of automatic writing include:
Clarity and calm for mind, body, and spirit
Insights
Obtaining your spiritual guidance
Better heart connection
Strengthening intuition
You don’t need to be a 'good writer' to access your Higher Self. Your spelling doesn’t matter, how neatly you write is irrelevant here. This is just for you and, like any exercise, the more you practise your ‘intuitive muscle’ the easier it gets and the stronger your connection to your spirit become
You will need:
a quiet, comfortable space.
pen and paper - find something beautiful to write with and on!
candle and/or a favorite crystal for focus.
a glass of filtered water or warm lemon water to hydrate.
a question to ask - write it down.
to identify whom you are asking: your God-Self, an Archangel, or Guide. Remember, your God-Self or fragment of Source holds all the answers in this and every lifetime you have ever existed. Others can assist to help access the Higher Self, clarify a message, or give their interpretation.
Beginning and the Beginner’s Mind
We can block flow with disbelief and expectation - and this common block can be easily overcome by:
Having fun! This is an exciting path to explore.
Letting go of expectation. What happens next is always Divinely guided.
Taking several deep breaths, the deepest you have taken all day, relaxing on the out breath.
Focus your mind on the candle flame, or by staring deeply into your crystal.
Do this for 10-15 minutes. It is a good idea to set a timer so you can relax rather than focus on the clock.
Once you feel ready, begin writing. Don't worry if your writing doesn't make sense, get out of the way and let the words flow onto your page.
TIP: If nothing presents, write that. If thoughts about chores or what to make for dinner arise, write that. Keep writing, even if it is nonsense because this will open the flow.
It’s common to find yourself judging and doubting what you write. Love it and let it go.
If you get distracted, repeat whatever practice you used to enter the trance state.
Try again tomorrow.
Interpret the information
When it is time to end the session, your writing will naturally 'run dry', your mind becomes focused on your environment, you may find you are given a key phrase that ends the session, or you might simply find no more information is forthcoming.
Read your message - notice patterns, key words or phrases, or jumbled thoughts. You may also find words from different languages, symbols, mantras or images within your writing. Hold no judgement.
Be prepared to do a little self-reflection to find any metaphoric or symbolic information.
Remember, if you are confused or need clarification, you can use this as the question to ask in your next automatic writing session.
If you decide to connect with your Higher Self, I’d love to hear how you went!
Blessings

Hi Michelle, can this be done by typing instead of hand writing? I struggle to write for long periods of time due to arthritis in my hands, yet can type easily.
